Tin Ceiling
Part of my personal development at present has been to learn how to use Substance Designer for material development so that I can further push my look development. This has included a wide range of materials from flooring, fabric and organic matter.
The Concept
Tin ceilings were marketed in the 1800s as a popular alternative to the expensive plaster work of the Victorian era. I wanted to capture this iconic North American aesthetic in a way that would be easily implemented into an environmental build.
The Process
I'd never broken down such complex patterns before, so I turned to the magic of Pauline Boiteux to assist me. It resulted in an incredibly complex graph made out of many elements, which were then utilised to generate the various passes.
The Outcome
This design took me about a week to achieve, but it taught me many lessons on how to break down ornate designs such as wall tiling, lace, embroidery and wallpaper, which will strengthen my environmental and fabric design skills for the future.
